It’s summer, which means that music festival season is in full swing. Not wanting to drop a lot of money on a flower crown to wear to Lollapalooza this weekend, I decided to DIY the trend. I can’t stress enough how easy, fun, and rewarding it is to make a flower crown! It took me about twenty minutes and $15 to make, not to mention that it made my house smell like a garden.
So whether you’re heading to a music festival, or your DIY-ing your wedding, or you just want to feel like a fairy for a day, I’m breaking down how to make a flower crown!
// Step One: Collect what you’ll need.
Ballin’ on a budget? No worries! All you need to make a flower crown is wire, flowers, scissors, and your artistic vision and personal flair. Any thin wire would do, but I used this green floral wire to blend in better. Buy flowers to your taste. I found a lovely bouquet that came with a wide variety of flowers that I thought would translate well into a crown, but you can always mix and match bouquest to taste, or pick your own! Make sure to include some greens as well. I separated my bouquet and cut down all the pieces to make picking and choosing for the crown an easier process.
// Step Two: Make Your Crown Base
Create the base of your crown by making a ring using the wire. I wrapped the wire around twice for extra support.
// Step Three: Attach the Greenery
Begin by attaching a layer of greens around the base of the crown. This will help your crown to achieve a fuller look, and helps hide the wire base. Attach leaves by wrapping small bits of wire around the stem, as shown below.
// Step Four: Add Flower Power
Once your base of greenery is attached, start by attaching flowers in the same style! Wrap bits of wire around the stem and base.
Your artistic vision takes over from here. Make the crown as full as you want, mixing and matching flowers here and there.
